Love Yourself    Protect Your Body!

Sun protection isn't just a concept — for people who are concerned about their skin, it's a way of life. But for sun protection to become second nature, people often need to find shortcuts, develop new habits, and find ways to seamlessly integrate it into their lifestyle.

You can sunburn even on a cloudy day. On average, children get 3 times more exposure than adult. Concrete, sand, water, and snow reflect 85% to 90% of the sun's UV rays.

It's natural to enjoy all kinds of outdoor activities. We encourage you to be safe by following these sun-safety tips to help prevent serious skin damage.

  • Keep in mind the sun is strongest between 10 am and 2 pm.
  • Wear protective clothing when outside.
  • Wear protective clothing. - Wear clothing that covers your body. Wear sunglasses that protect from UV. Not all tinted and dark glasses offer UVprotection. Check the label before you buy them.
  • Wear a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses.
  • Remember that UV rays bounce off sand, snow, concrete, and water.

  • Avoid using sun-tanning beds.
  • Try to keep very young children (6 months or less) out of the sun.
  • Sunscreens should be applied liberally and evenly over all exposed areas (including neck, ears and lips).
  • Attempt to apply a sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or higher whenever you’re outdoors.
  • For children, the SSA recommends sunscreen with an SPF 30 or higher.
  • Sunscreen should be applied before going outdoors and reapplied often, particularly after swimming, perspiring, and toweling off.
  • For people with thin or thinning hair, sunscreen should be applied to the scalp as well.
  • Teach your children good sun protection habits at an early age: The damage that leads to adult skin cancers starts in childhood.
And remember to stay in the shade whenever possible!
